Bastian, Hotel Andaz Munich

Faces of Schwabinger Tor

For our portrait series Faces of Schwabinger Tor, we welcome Bastian from the Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor today. The charming Austrian has been responsible for marketing and sales at the hotel since 2018 and welcomes us in good spirits to "his hallowed halls" at Leopoldstr. 170.

After Dubai, Doha, Frankfurt, Singapore and Vienna, his journey led him to Munich in 2018. He found his professional home in Schwabinger Tor and still feels very much at home there. "The neighborhood has developed enormously in recent years," says Bastian. "At the beginning of my time, I often had to explain the location in detail. Up to Münchner Freiheit, many were able to follow me, but after that, orientation rapidly deteriorated." He has words of praise for the La Bohème team: "They did insanely good groundwork - even when the hotel was still under construction, they were already flying the flag and making the Schwabinger Tor name known."

In conversation, we discover that the 34-year-old is a host through and through, keeps a close eye on his surroundings, and is always on call. "I absorbed that with my mother's milk," he says with a smile. Bastian comes from a family of hoteliers. "So it was clear to me what I was getting into and that the hotel industry also means a lot of hard work." He completed his first internship in Düsseldorf. General manager of the hotel at the time: his father. "He didn't spare me - on the contrary, it was always important to him that I understand exactly what goes on behind the scenes." From doing laundry to cleaning rooms, it was all there. Today, he says, he sells one of the most sacred goods in the world: sleep!

Bastian finds a balance to his busy everyday life in the fresh air: "Whenever I can, I spend time in nature." Mountain climbing, skiing or even playing soccer for FC Teutonia e. V. Munich are his hobbyhorses. "And classic cars," he admits. "I liiove classic cars!" Anyone looking for Bastian in our neighborhood should either be on the lookout for a turquoise Beetle, built in '64, with a wiggly wiggle or, in case of doubt, look for him at what is probably Munich's most beautiful workplace: At the M'uniqo Rooftop Bar on the 12th floor of the hotel. "The view is incredible every time!" To this day, according to his stories, the rumor persists that only hotel guests are allowed in the bar. Where that comes from, he doesn't know, but he assures us, "Absolutely everyone is welcome here!" And adds, "I do recommend a reservation, though."

Dear Bastian, thank you very much for the interview, you really are a passionate host and it is obvious that your profession is much more your vocation! You have chosen the red bench in front of the Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor ("for short breaks") and La Bohème ("everything just fits here") as your other favorite places, thus completing the list of where you are most likely to be found in Schwabinger Tor. We hope that these places will never lose their charm for you and that after your many changes of location you will really settle down in our neighborhood!

Best regards, your Munich home!
